I need to clean rust off an old sword of mine?
When I was a kid I worked my ass off all summer and got a long sword. Then because of a divorce I went to one state, and the sword stayed in another. I have it back and decided to restore it. It is covered in small amounts of rust, though, because I was always touching it. It's not deep at all, but I really don't want to scratch the blade. It's not an antique at all, so don't give me the warnings of devaluing. I watched it get made.
Anyway, I need a gentle way to remove the rust. I've been recommended to use jeweler's rouge, which I already have. I'm not really inclined to use steel wool.
Use a dry green scower pad like you are washing dishes press with med pressure and afterward buff out the finish with a piece of leather and some oil or WD-40 to protect it from future rust. if the rust is stubborn use some WD-40 with the scower pad to help loosen up the rust.
