Are ear piercing guns really so bad, or is just body piercers' propaganda so they get more business?
I'm not talking about the old ones, where the stud fits straight into the barrell of a reusable, dirty gun - but the more modern 'disposable cartridge' ones were everything that touches either the ear or the earring is completely disposable.
I would have thought the idea of a sterile earring in a sterile cartridge would overcome the possibility of cross-infection, so for use on earlobes (where the cartilage can't get 'smashed') does it not seem the better option.
Assuming ear piercing with a needle is like having your belly pierced with a needle, then:
- making the hole
- putting the jewellery in the hole
- attaching the earring back
is replaced with a single, very quick 'snap' - and you can even get them done at the same time a lot of places.

I'm thinking of training to use an ear piercing gun.
An ear piercing gun tears the skin, causing the earing to 'rip' the flesh. A piercing needle causes a puncture wound, and places the jewelry through the hole. The difference is in the way the two wounds heal. Ultimately, the two injuries tend to heal in the same fashion, but a typical tear takes longer, is more prone to infection, and is more likely to migrate from the initial location.
