Does anyone know how much is for the manufacture of tools for jewelry?
I live in Connecticut. I can not seem to buy tools for jewelry. Thanks
It depends on how it is. My husband went to school to make jewelry and had a job for a couple of years to do so. He is now in a different job and does the little things at home. Not have all the tools to do big jobs, such as a flexible shaft or a torch. I know that the axis flexible can be a couple hundred dollars, pretty sure to make rings, put them in place, I forget. If you want to get a torch that can be more expensive. I know that oxygen (which are safer) can be as much as $ 1.000, and the others are a few hundred. As for small tools such as files, saws, or anything else ... I'm not sure about the price. Have you tried Ebay? I know some people sell the axes of flexion of the existence of 50 to 150 uses, so that tools would be even cheaper, I'd think.
Jewellery and beads for Dummies - Book Review
Beads & Jewelry Making for Dummies was published in 2005 and is probably the book the most popular available to teach beginners the basics of making jewelry and beads.
When the book was published some years ago, I had already made jewelry for a while if I was not really interested in obtaining it.
Now I'm concentrating more on teaching jewelry making I am always looking for jewelry making information that can help beginners, so I decided to get the book and examine it.
Here is an overview of the contents of the book and my opinion on each section. If you're new to pearl and / or jewelry making I hope you find this useful.
The book is divided into five parts: Part 1: Creating Irresistible Jewelry, Part 2: Discover the simple techniques of jewelry making, Part 3: Implementation of design ideas, trends, and more, Part 4: Build on your Jewelry Making Hobby, and Part 5: The Part of Tens.
The first part, creating jewelry Irresistible, covers everything from A to Z a beginner needs to know about the different chains, ropes, and wire options available. There is also a full explanation of the basic jewelry making tools and various types of connectors (pins, lids, rings, etc.) and clasps.
There is also a very comprehensive explanation on the types of beads, Crystal Beads, pearls and stones. A small section is devoted to explaining where you can find jewelry making materials both online and offline.
The section ends with a chapter devoted to explaining how best to configure your workspace.
While Part 1 of the book is essentially a description of "what" whereas Part 2, mere discovery of jewelry manufacturing techniques, entering the "how."
Not surprisingly, it starts with stringing and knotting and using crimps. The next chapter is devoted to beads and weaving focuses primarily on weaving seed beads.
I thought it was a little unusual to focus so much on the rocks because there are many beautiful pieces that you can do the weaving beads other than seed beads. So I think this chapter could be greatly improved by showing more details in this area, but it does not cover basic weaving patterns.
Part 2 ends with a chapter on the son of packaging that includes how to choose the wire, the basic techniques of wire wrapping, and a nice section on how to use a metal template.
Thus, parts 1 and 2 occupy about half the book and really cover everything you need to know as a beginner. I should also mention that there are simple projects spread in two sections so that you can practice what you learn as you go.
Looking at this from the perspective of a beginner, I think Parts 1 and 2 of the book are all you really need.
Part 3 of the book consists primarily of projects with pearls, and although they are all very beautiful jewelry, there very few graphics showing step by step how to make the parts. In my experience working with beginners, I think many would have difficulty make these pieces without detailed instructions or hands-on assistance as a class or video.
So if I were a beginner, I would like learned in Parts 1 and 2, and put the book on the shelf for a while, and maybe revisit Part 3 later after gaining more experience.
Part 4, in my opinion, goes off on a tangent that I do not think has much to do with learning beading and jewelry.
Things are covered such as how to decorate objects with beads, making jewelry with kids, hosting a jewelry party and tips for what to do if you want to turn your hobby into a jewelry company.
I will say that the part about turning your jewelry making hobby into a business has very good advice, especially on how to correctly price your jewelry. It shows you how to make sure you include a cost for how time it takes you to a piece of jewelry. Most jewelry makers forget to do and it leads to lower prices significantly their jewelry.
The final section, Part 5: Part of Tens is so named because it gives you three chapters of Top Tens. The top 10 leading suppliers of products jewelry. It is good but a little dated. New suppliers have emerged since the publication of the book are better than some listed in the book.
The top 10 is the second jewel of common mistakes to avoid and has very good tips for avoiding mistakes that beginners often do.
The 10 is the upper third of ideas to make money selling your jewelry. There are some very good ideas in this section.
Overall, I recommend this book for beginners as a good resource to start. But keep in mind that if you're learning style is more suited learning by seeing things in action, you may have difficulty learning beading by looking that this book simply because it Not many "how to" graphics.
The book is available in many bookstores and at Amazon.com.
