What's up with that orange mask in Fukuoka?
I went to Fukuoka recently. I noticed that there was this rectangular, orange mask that covers your eyes. The eyes look sleepy and the eyebrows are tilted in a way to make the face look tired or unconcerned. There were masks, key chains, phone charms, cookies, t-shirts, and other stuff. What's the deal? What's the name of this mask? What's the story behind this apparently famous, orange eye mask?
Well, it's not a traditional Japanese mask. It's like a cartoon face on orange cardboard, like the crowns at burger king for kids. It's a pop icon I think, but I don't know what it is and what it means.

Originally it had been used at comical show. Some people wear mask and play music (and sometimes dancing) in Hakata-Dontaku festival.
It is traditional and unique mask of only Fukuoka.
