craft beading, necklaces, buying beads?
So I am interested in starting beads again and I notice at all the craft stores the beads now come on chains, like a necklace. I am so confused about that? Am I supposed to take them off the chain and reuse them or am I buying a halfway put together necklace? This is as opposed to loose beads
I believe that some of the higher quality, perhaps glass, beads have always come strung as strands (several of which together make "hanks"), so maybe the ones you're seeing temporarily strung that way are Glass Beads or just the more expensive beads?
I also assume that the temporary cording used to string them wouldn't be strong enough to be used in actual jewelry.
Seed beads that are already strung on a cording are also easier to use in certain kinds of beading (where a number of beads are to be picked up by the needle before being attached to a surface) so maybe that's another reason.

After the successful launch of the XILION cut in various other product groups, CRYSTALLIZEDTM – Swarovski Elements will again extend the XILION family. From June 2 through September 30, 2009 they will transition to the brilliant XILION upgrade of the 5301 Bicone Bead with article 5328 XILION Bead.
The revolutionary XILION cut, with its alternating large and small facets, results in higher brilliance and intense light reflection. In addition, this cut is differentiated from all other products on the market and copyright protected. The increased number of facets enhances the overall appearance of the bead and the rounder belt line results in improved wearing comfort of the finished design.
The fascinating XILION cut will be applied to all standard sizes of the bicone bead except for 2.5mm, which is too small to be upgraded.
The new article 5328 will be available – without any additional price increase – in the same assortment as the existing article 5301. For design application, the 5301 and 5328 XILION Bead can be combined as their dimensions and geometry are complimentary.
